TMU Does Music

The latest craze soaring through TMUnderground is Music, Music, Music!

We are entering the third and final round of the TMOA Idol Contest. Each contestant has chosen 2 songs from a pre-selected list, along with a third "wild card" choice. As their submissions are played lived on TMOA Radio, commentators provide instant feedback. Voting is left to the listening audience. Downloads of the first two rounds can be found here.

This competition has spurned a whilrwind of music videos on TMU - some simply showcases for the song, others more in-depth offerings.

On top of the contest, Jase180 has finished casting for his upcoming work, a variation of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Additionally, our resident songbird Sisch has taken a professional view of singing, as can be seen/listened to in some of her movies as well as Norrie's.

Infidelitas Wins Horror Categry TMO/TMU Tournament

Trewill's movie Infidelitas has come off victorious in the first category of thebiz's TMO/TMU Tournament of Champions. Trewill describes this movie as...

The wages of our sins can extract a heavy toll. For Detective Jimmy Dunkel, a veteran of the Violent Crime Unit of Metro City, the price of his transgressions could cost him his friendships, his marriage, and ultimately his soul. With dark forces gathering strength all around him, Jimmy is caught in the midst of an ageless war between good and evil that is about to erupt. Will the love of his friends and family be enough to persuade him to salvage his life? Or will he discover that darkness is not an instant decision, but rather a journey wrought with poor choices and sin. From director Trewill7, comes the story of Jimmy Dunkel's tragic fall before the "Last Rites" are ever spoken.

The 7 nominations his movie defeated were: JosephKW's Dark Tides of Innsmouth , Trashman's utarefsoN, Babar's Panic Radio, Corinthian's Apollyon, and Jase180's Sola Fide.

Details on the Tournament can be found here.

Next up is Comedy.

Music Videos - A great way to experiment with new software

As more and more members of TMUnderground expand their horizons into other machinima programs, it seems that the favorite form of experimentation is making music videos.

There's a few reasons for this: 1) Music lends itself to experimental movement; 2) Investing a full script on a program you're learning can be frustrating because you're learning as you're creating, and you can lose the track of what you were envisioning for the movie; 3) Oh, yeah - and they are fun to make!

Valentine's Day

Created for a TMO vs Moviestorm Action film contest that was canceled this film was created with the community as a whole. From Modders to VO’s we went for a heavyweight knockout. Given the theme “Lesser of Two Evils” Valentines Day is a story about just that and is set as the ending to a bigger film. The film is a showcase of TMO’s ability to make a knock out action film and since the contest allowed outside editing…this was our chosen project! Valentine is the city's most notorious crime figure and with a huge corruption trial looming over the city hes just snatched the key witness away and aims to show that there are bad guys and there are worse guys. Written by Jase180 and directed by Michael_b6, this movie had intensive community involvement for music, acting, and countless other contributions.

Winners of The Alfred Hitchcock Competition

Alfred Hitchcock was a master of the suspense genre. Starting in the early 1920s and working until the mid-1970s, Hitchcock re-invented and re-imagined the suspense genre. His films have gone on to influence many over the years. In this competition, entrants were asked to create a film in the style of Hitchcock.

Congratulations to the winners:

New Channel on TMU

There's a new channel on TMUnderground for movies made with iclone, antics, and MoveStorm.

Other Machinima Channel

We hope that this not only showcases these creations but also allows people who are currently debating which tool to buy to easily see examples and make their software choice.

We have seen movies that have incorporated more than one machinima tool and it will be interesting to see how people incorporate these together with The Movies software.

How is TMU different from TMO?

TMUnderground is different from The Moves Online in one immediately significant way - the ability to use outside editing. This is vastly appealing to many of the directors who have decided to expand beyond the basic frame of The Movies Online.

While TMO has an extremely gifted and creative group of modders who have expended their time, energy and resources into revolutionizing the capabilities of the software, the migration to incorporate outside editing is icing on the cake.

Already we have seen some truly impressive works that would not have been possible within the confines of TMO. For example:

Sisch describes this as, "A nightclub. Curtis Place, the hotspot in town. Kitty. A dancer, young, beautiful, high spirited, innocent. Cora. A singer, at the height of her career, warm hearted and respected. Paul. The good soul of the club, a gentleman. Friendship. Trust. Conflicting emotions. A price to pay. Even though I uploaded in insanely high quality, conversion took away a lot of detail and the sound seems to be ever so slightly out of synch with lip movement... at least I see it."

TMU's Once Upon a Time Competition

The TMU's "Once Upon a Time" Competition has come to an end and the winners announced.

There are many important elements to a movie or screen play. One of the most important element is STORY and PLOT. A really great movie needs a really great story but often the story and plot suffer because of lack of creativity, originality, need to visual effects and action sequences etc.

The 'Once Upon A Time' contest focused on STORY and PLOT DEVELOPMENT. What the judges were looking for were an ORIGINAL plot, a WELL THOUGHT OUT story, CREATIVITY, excellent PLOT and CHARACTER developments, something INTERESTING and INVOLVING rather than 2-dimensional 'seen it all before' boring story lines.

The 1-6 place winners are:

First Place - Authored by thebiz
Second Place - When the Wind Got its Voice by elbow
Third Place - Hector and Dale by jjnelson222
Fourth Place - Theory of the Heart by pookashells
Fifth Place - Prince Logan and the Dragon by dulci
Sixth Place - A Tale of Little Tommy and His Love of Firearms by asaoleary123

Judges were Sparky1512 (who also organized the contest), AnotherNewDawn, SGPorsche48, Ken White, and Joseph KW.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who participated with entries and judging.
