The Movies Online Officially Closed

The Movies Online is no more. For an interesting read, check out the official Movies Online History according to Lionhead. This does not mean the community is vanishing or that people will stop making movies with the software - it just means that there is no longer a Lionhead website for movies to be uploaded to; the online portion connected with the game is gone.

For the next day or so, all the movies on the homepage of TMUnderground will be ones from "The Movies Rescue Project", which consisted of archiving The Movies Online movies onto TMU.

Please join us as we remember good times, good movies, and good friends from the past three years.

Sigh. Its a shame to lose the movies. And by the movies I mean simply that. The movies. I loved having that huge repository of old, often bizarre, sometimes good, sometimes terrible, sometimes inspiring, sometimes shed a tear for the youth of today movies. Truthfully the tmo forums were more a source of irritation (even today) than anything else to me but TMO was just a big ol largely harmless gigantic collection of peoples ideas, talents and skills. I used to love roving about that server looking for the hidden stories, the insane scenarios, the filmmakers who never knew anything of a community but made something unique and exciting and 100% awesome. Oh well, life moves forward with or without you so...Sionora TMO. May you live in the hearts and minds of a few. End cheesey dialogue...now.

Agreed, biz. It's a huge loss. I'm glad you guys were able to salvage some of the films.

Sorry to see them close down entirely. The smart (and right) thing to have done would be to set up a separate site to archive the films for the community. wouldn't have killed them to do this. Ah, well, Lionhead...

Thanks for rescuing some of the films and keeping the spirit alive.
