Tick tock, tick tock

...Tick, tock, tick, tock...

Time is counting down to the closure of the Nomination Phase of the 2010 Ollies!

You have just over 10 days to get your Nominations in, so don't delay!

I can see by the number of responses thus far that people are obviously agonising over their choices (and I don't blame you; there are some damnably hard choices to make this year. I'd venture to say, the choice is even harder than last year!), but don't miss out on your chance to nominate!

Make sure you follow the proscribed format for completing the nominations to avoid your hard work going to waste; without specifics, we haven't got the time to work through all 8,000+ movies uploaded in the last 12 months to have a rough idea of what movie you were talking about that director X made, or performer Y starred in, etc!

So, make sure you get your nominations in by midnight UK time on 21 August to ensure that your views are considered in the Voting Phase!

Access the voting form HERE

Start thinking about the Second Annual Ollies

As you may (or may not) be aware, 22 July 2010 marks the end date for acceptable nominations for this year's Ollies.

For those of you not aware, this is last year's thread, containing the categories, etc. that you, the community, voted on last time.

In preparation for this year's awards, we thought now would be a good time to start folk thinking about the last twelve months of movie making, to allow you to check back on some of the great flicks you may have missed and give you plenty of time to think about what you want to nominate this year.

We will be following the same general process as before; the "nomination phase", where every registered TMU member will be able to nominate the films they believe deserve recognition in the various categories, followed by the "voting phase", where again all "filmic collective" participants get to register their vote for the shortlisted movies from the nominations received.

We may have a cool new way for the nominations and votes to be tallied this year (if our resident coding genius can get it working, that is ), and further details will be posted nearer the actual kick off time for the first phase.

In the meantime, constructive suggestions for categories (other than those we already had last time) are gratefully accepted; as the hobby has moved on a lot since last year, some of the categories may no longer be relevant, some may need to be "updated" and there are no doubt some which we missed last time round.

There is a thread which K4 created last year for ease of use which has a few entries; we have been discussing a potential sub forum specifically for Ollies posts; more news on that if and when.

As an example of the changes, it is possible that, to avoid such a manic evening as last year, we will be looking to announce the "Technical Awards" on Saturday and the "Movie Awards" on Sunday to allow more time for interviews, etc.

As before, the online form is

or via PM to Killian here on the boards.

This form is even easier to complete than the last (you don’t even need to type anything other than your name!); all you need to do is:-

1: Click the link above,
2: Fill in your FORUM ACCOUNT name,
3: Tick ONE choice only for each category you want to vote for and
4: Hit SUBMIT

It can’t be any easier.

You have until September 27 2009 to vote on the nominees. Please note that there are NO abstentions for this final round; you MUST vote for every category.

So Get VOTING HERE and have fun!

We would like to thank everyone who nominated in Round One (and to Mr DeBoing and Mr Guppi for their sterling work in producing the Ollie Statuettes (and the as yet unnamed winner whose work will be decorating the winner's forum tags...)), and we hope to get as many votes as we did in the first round for Round Two and good luck to all the nominees!

August 31st DEADLINE

The deadline for The First Annual Ollies is August 31st. Please take some time to review the various categories and submit your nominations.

Also, if you would like to donate any prizes for the competition, please let us know.

First Annual Ollies - TMUnderground Awards

The First Annual Ollies

As part of the celebrations in regard to the first birthday of TMU, we are looking to see which movies the "viewing public" loved over the last twelve months, in our 1st Annual Ollies!

The process is simple; we are looking for everyone (for indeed YOU, as the viewing public, will be the "members of the Academy" in these awards) to place their votes for the award categories below; everyone gets a vote and the winners will be chosen based on the total number of votes tallied for each category. This way, the community speaks, and the winners will be those voted for BY the community as a whole.

Procedure
1) Copy and paste the list below into a PM.

2) List your vote for each category against the category name.

3) Send the completed list to Killian via PM on the boards here, with a subject line of "
CA Nominations". The votes will be tallied after the deadline, and the nominees and winners will be listed at a later date.

Any questions please feel free to ask Mr Tom Foster, who will be happy to field any queries you have (provided they’re not the ones about where babies come from, how many beans make five, or two trains start from New York and Chicago…).

Please note that both Tom and I have exempted ourselves from nomination for any of these awards to ensure fair play, so DON'T vote for either of us.

Rules
1) One vote per registered TMU member (you must include your screen-name at the top of your voting form).

2) You must complete every category on the list (i.e. no voting for “Best Picture” and leaving the rest blank, for example; partially completed forms will be disqualified from the final tally).

3) To qualify for nomination, the listed movie(s) must have been released
on TMU between 22 July 2008 and 22 July 2009 (either via direct upload or embedding from another hosting site). Movies hosted/uploaded to other sites, which have NOT been embedded on the movie site, do not qualify (i.e. forum posts pointing to movies hosted off-site, for example).

As the Movie site lists movies by days since it was uploaded, the cut off point is: any movie uploaded 18 days ago OR MORE (correct as of Sunday 8 August 2009).

The last acceptable movie that could be voted on this year would therefore be Sanction27’s Mod Showcase movie for July 09; anything later than this would be acceptable for the 2010 Awards, but not this year’s.

3) All completed lists must be back by
31 August 2009.

4) You CANNOT vote for yourself or your own movies; you can only vote for ANOTHER community member.

5) No canvassing for votes will be allowed; anyone caught doing so will be DISQUALIFIED from nomination.

The votes cast will be tallied, and the top three in each category will go forward to the final stage. A list of the top three will be posted.

At that point, a second round of voting will be taken for the nominees; the movie or individual in each category with the highest number of votes cast will be judged the winner.

The Thong De Roger Award for Outstanding Contribution to TMU (the director/voice artist/writer/modder, etc that YOU think has epitomised TMU in the last twelve months)

If you are not sure of names (i.e. for things like the Composer category, for example), contact the filmmaker in question for the name (this is one reason why you should always use proper crediting for mods, VOs and music, folks!)

Please note neither categories nor rules are subject to negotiation.

And remember: these are YOUR awards; vote for the films, directors, writers, etc, who YOU think best encapsulate the spirit of the community.

You have until 12:00 midnight GMT on 31 August 2009 (3 full weeks, people!) to get the first round nominations in. Once these are in and tallied, we will produce the final nominees for the second round votes; submission guidelines for this will be posted after Round One.

Looking forward to seeing how the voting turns out!

Now, enough blather; get your thinking caps on and let’s have those votes in!
